It's About Time!

So, this morning I came across this sapid article today about young models in the Fashion world and I don’t mean early twenties cause that’s old…lol. I’m speaking on teeny boppers in the age range of 13 to 15, who are being drafted into the world of high fashion with the hopes of being the next Kate Moss or Naomi Campbell.

I’ve always thought young models who have arrived in their pubescent stage should have nothing to do with high fashion until they get well in to high school. I think it causes confusion and quick maturation which in result is damaging to the young girls around the world who look up to them.

Well, finally someone is putting a stop to this and it is Australia’s fashion industry. In a recent fashion showcase, the industry opted out of having a 14 yr old girl as the face of its annual fashion week. They felt she was too young. Plain and simple.

Organizers of Australia’s fashion week had planned to make 14-year-old Polish model Monika Jagaciak the star of its annual fashion shows from April 28 to May 2. (Grubel, 2008)

Here is what they had to say…

“Fourteen is young and extreme,” Australia’s Vogue editor Kirsty Clements told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio.

“That is a big disconnect to what you are essentially supposed to be doing, selling clothes to women, and yet you are getting them so young that they haven’t even developed a curve.

“What does that mean? They are going to be washed up and on the scrap heap, which actually does happen as soon as they start to develop breast and hips. It is ridiculous.”

Marie Claire editor Jackie Frank said it was time publishers and fashion companies took a stand and lifted the minimum age of models to 16.

I think it was a great idea for someone to finally realize that the waifish, anorexic, young model is OUT!-

Fashion Tulip…it is a fabulous idea to set aside the “baby” models. As stated, they are not mature enough to handle the industry and the merchandise is being sold to women. There will also be a misconception about how the Woman’s body should be. If you have a child ripping the runway and there are WOMEN in the audience, the conception will be that there has to be a underdeveloped body type to wear the clothing…That simply is unrealistic.
